New Delhi: Condemning the detention of several lawyers during the Delhi protests, the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association has sought the intervention of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and raised serious concerns over the alleged use of excessive force by officers who, it says, were not displaying identification badges [Detention of advocates during the Delhi protests of October 10].
Taken to the Yamuna Sports Complex
A media report says lawyers who were marching in protest against the Chief Election Commissioner and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls were detained near the Supreme Court by Delhi Police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel and taken to the Yamuna Sports Complex. The Supreme Court Bar Association has also written to the Chief Justice, and the CJI is reported to have communicated to the authorities that the lawyers should be released; they are expected to be released soon. No statement from Delhi Police or the Central forces on the allegations has been reported.

The Association, whose President is Advocate Devvrat, has condemned the detentions and flagged what it describes as excessive force by officers without identification badges. These are its allegations and they have not been tested. The details of its communication have not been made public.
