A litigant appearing in person was forcibly removed from the Supreme Court after allegedly abusing the Bench and throwing case papers during a hearing challenging an Allahabad High Court order. The incident before Justices K.V. Viswanathan and Alok Aradhe briefly disrupted court proceedings.

An unusual and dramatic scene unfolded inside the Supreme Court of India when a litigant appearing in person was forcibly escorted out of the courtroom after allegedly hurling abuses at the Bench and throwing his case papers during the hearing of his petition challenging an order of the Allahabad High Court.

The incident occurred before a Bench comprising Justice K.V. Viswanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe, temporarily disrupting the court proceedings as security personnel intervened to restore order.

The petitioner, who chose to argue his own case without legal representation, reportedly adopted an aggressive tone from the very beginning of the hearing. As soon as the matter was called, he demanded that the Supreme Court direct the registration of a criminal case against a police officer in Lucknow.

Addressing the Bench in an inappropriate manner, the litigant stated:

“Mr judicial servant. I order you to order the registration of an FIR against the ACP … Lucknow,”

The remark immediately drew the attention of the Bench, with Justice Viswanathan expressing surprise at the manner in which the petitioner was addressing the Court. Justice Viswanathan asked,

“You are ordering me? You are ordering us?”

Instead of responding to the Court’s query in a measured manner, the petitioner abruptly indicated that he had nothing further to submit orally.

“That is all from my side. Everything is on record.”

However, the situation rapidly deteriorated moments later.

According to proceedings, the litigant suddenly became increasingly confrontational. In a fit of anger, he allegedly threw his case papers into the air inside the courtroom and began shouting abuses in open court. The unexpected outburst disrupted the proceedings and prompted immediate intervention by the Supreme Court’s security personnel. Court security staff quickly restrained the litigant and escorted him out of the courtroom to restore normalcy and ensure the dignity of judicial proceedings.

The petitioner had approached the Supreme Court seeking relief against a decision passed by the Allahabad High Court. Although the precise nature of the underlying dispute was not discussed during the hearing before the apex court, the litigant appeared to be pressing for directions regarding the registration of an FIR against an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Lucknow. Before any substantive arguments on the merits of the case could proceed, the hearing was overshadowed by the petitioner’s conduct inside the courtroom.

Court proceedings before the Supreme Court are governed by established principles of decorum and judicial discipline. While litigants appearing in person are entitled to present their cases without legal representation, they are expected to maintain respect for the institution and follow the directions of the Bench.

The Friday incident stood out as an exceptional occurrence, with the petitioner openly confronting the judges, using abusive language and disrupting proceedings, ultimately leading to his removal by court security.

The matter highlighted the importance of maintaining the dignity of judicial proceedings, even as courts continue to provide every litigant a fair opportunity to be heard.
