New Delhi: The Supreme Court Registry has recorded 14 office objections to the joint writ petition filed by Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders against the Election Commission of India (ECI) over alleged electoral irregularities and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The objections are dated 12 October 2026. They are routine filing-stage objections, not a ruling of the Court, and they express no view on the merits of the petition. [Rahul Gandhi v. Election Commission of India, Diary No. 64196/2026]

The petition was filed on 12 October through Advocate-on-Record S Prasanna, the day Opposition leaders marched towards the Supreme Court in Delhi. It names the ECI, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi as respondents. No Bench has been assigned, and no listing date has been fixed, in the material available.

What the petition seeks

The petitioners allege electoral irregularities, which Opposition leaders have described as “vote chori”. The petition seeks, among other relief, production of ECI records, a committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge to audit SIR deletions, and interim suspension of SIR across all States. These are the petitioners’ contentions. They are untested, and the response of the ECI and the other respondents is awaited. The Court has expressed no view on them.
