Filed on Monday, 12 October, the petition carries Diary No. 64196/2026. No Bench has been indicated and no date of listing given.
Who filed it, and against whom
The petition names the ECI as respondent and was filed through AoR S Prasanna. The reliefs sought and the grounds taken are awaited, and this report will be updated once the petition is available.
Where the SIR matters stand
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear other matters concerning the SIR on Tuesday, 13 October. CJI Surya Kant had indicated that any petition filed by the Opposition could be considered along with the pending matters.
Opposition protests over the SIR, and demands for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, over alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls, form the backdrop to the filing. These are the Opposition’s allegations and the Court has not expressed any view on them. The ECI’s position on the petition is awaited.
