Supreme Court judges paid tribute to Dr B.R. Ambedkar, highlighting his role in shaping India’s Constitution. CJI Surya Kant said protecting equality, fraternity, and fundamental rights is the true tribute to his legacy.

On April 14, the Supreme Court of India paid heartfelt tributes to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, recognizing his immense contribution as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, along with other judges of the apex court, participated in the tribute ceremony held within the court premises in New Delhi.

Addressing the media, the Chief Justice spoke in Hindi and highlighted the lasting impact of Dr. Ambedkar’s vision on the nation’s legal and constitutional framework. He emphasized that Dr. Ambedkar played a crucial role in giving India a strong and inclusive Constitution that protects the rights and dignity of every citizen.

The Chief Justice stated,

“We remember Dr Ambedkar with deep respect. Remembering the constitutional values of right to equality, fraternity, fundamental rights, and others, and upholding the constitutional rights he envisioned is the greatest tribute we can pay to his memory.”

He further noted that the Constitution drafted under Dr. Ambedkar’s leadership is not just a legal document but a guiding force that ensures justice, equality, and unity in a diverse country like India. The Chief Justice underlined that the principles of equality, liberty, and fraternity continue to shape the functioning of Indian democracy and its institutions.

The tribute ceremony reflected the judiciary’s acknowledgment of Dr. Ambedkar’s enduring legacy and his role in laying the foundation of a rights-based legal system.
