Big Judicial Update: Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Two Advocates For Appointment As Judges In Kerala High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium recommended appointment of advocates Preeta Aravindan Krishnamma and Liz Mathew Anthraper as judges of Kerala High Court. The decision was taken during its April 14 meeting, advancing judicial appointments in the High Court.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of two advocates to the Kerala High Court.

The names proposed are:

  • Preeta Aravindan Krishnamma
  • Liz Mathew Anthraper

The recommendation was adopted during a Collegium meeting held on April 14.

Liz Mathew Anthraper is a graduate of the National Law School of India University (Bengaluru) and currently practices before the Supreme Court. She has previously worked as a junior to former Supreme Court Justice Indu Malhotra and former Attorney General K K Venugopal. In 2008, she cleared the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record (AoR) Exam and began an independent practice. She also served as Standing Counsel for the State of Kerala from 2011 to 2016.

The Kerala High Court has a sanctioned strength of 47 judges and is presently functioning with 38, leaving a vacancy of 9.

After this recommendation, the names will be forwarded to the Union Ministry of Law and Justice. The Ministry will examine the files and subsequently submit them to the President of India for formal appointment warrants. Once the President’s approval is received and the appointments are notified in the Official Gazette, the advocates will be sworn in as judges of the Kerala High Court by the Chief Justice of the High Court.
