Allahabad High Court closed contempt proceedings against Bareilly officials over alleged interference with namaz at a private residence. The Court earlier ruled that offering prayers on private property in Uttar Pradesh requires no prior permission.
The Chhattisgarh High Court held that individuals cannot be stopped from conducting prayer meetings in their own homes as lawful property owners. “There is no such law restraining any persons… no need to get prior permission,” the Court affirmed, emphasizing legality and civil rights protection.
The Allahabad High Court ruled that interfaith couples have the constitutional right to live together peacefully without interference. The Court said the right to choose a partner and live with dignity is protected under Article 21 of the Constitution.
The Madras High Court (Madurai Bench) held that a deceased body cannot be used for protest, stressing dignified burial under Article 21. Justices N. Sathish Kumar and M. Jothiraman criticised delays in last rites, calling it a violation of fundamental rights.
The Supreme Court criticized the Allahabad High Court for adjourning a bail plea 27 times, emphasizing the importance of personal liberty. It granted bail to Lakshya Tawar, highlighting that delays in bail hearings undermine justice. The ruling reinforces the need for timely court proceedings, especially when individual freedoms are at stake.
On 28th March(Today), the Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta, delivered a lecture at Jindal Global Law School titled “The Journey of the Supreme Court of India on the Fundamental Rights.” He emphasized the struggle and evolution of fundamental rights, from the Government of India Act of 1935 to present-day challenges, and highlighted the pivotal role of Justice Bhagwati in shaping India’s legal system.
