The Delhi High Court granted jailed Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid a week of interim bail to visit his ailing father, allowing him to stay at home or hospital. The court ordered constant supervision by two police personnel present.
The Delhi High Court granted jailed Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid one week of interim bail so he could visit his ailing father.
A bench headed by Justice Vikas Mahajan allowed Rashid who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail to stay with his father either at the hospital or at his residence during the interim bail period.
The court also ordered that the Member of Parliament remain under the supervision of at least two police personnel at all times.
The bench clarified that the interim relief has been granted strictly to enable him to attend to his unwell father.
Rashid is currently in Tihar Jail as an accused in a terror funding case registered under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). He was arrested in 2019.
He won the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, defeating Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah by more than two lakh votes.

A special NIA court framed charges against him in March 2022 under multiple provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the UAPA, including allegations of criminal conspiracy, waging war against the state, and terror funding. He has challenged that order before the High Court.
The NIA was represented by Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra and Akshai Malik, who appeared on its behalf.
