Gate 2 of the Gujarat High Court in Ahmedabad, whose WhatsApp service now sends daily cause lists to advocates.

Ahmedabad: Advocates practising in the Gujarat High Court will now get their daily cause list on WhatsApp. The Court has launched a pilot service that sends each advocate an auto-generated, advocate-specific list as a PDF on the number registered with the court, in place of the earlier practice of an SMS alert followed by a manual search on the High Court website [Press Note dated October 7, 2026, High Court of Gujarat].

The Registrar General issued the press note on the direction of the Acting Chief Justice. The service is built on the WhatsApp Business API.

One PDF every evening

Each evening an advocate receives a list generated for that advocate alone, showing the matters listed in which the advocate appears, as a PDF attachment on WhatsApp. According to the press note, the listings can be viewed on a mobile device with a single tap.

The routine it replaces

So far, an SMS told advocates that the cause list had been published, and they then had to open the High Court web portal and look for their own matters. The press note says the new service removes the need to navigate the portal manually.

Planned next

For now this is only a pilot. The press note states that, after the pilot is evaluated, the High Court proposes to take WhatsApp messaging to other services for advocates and litigants, including:

  • certified copies of orders and judgments;
  • case status reports;
  • fee receipts; and
  • other eServices.

Why the press note matters

The daily cause list is a practising lawyer’s working document. Delivering it as a push message on an app most advocates already use is a small administrative change with a large daily effect, especially for those who appear in many courtrooms. The pilot also points to where court technology in Gujarat is heading, with the announced plans reaching litigants as well.

The press note describes a pilot only. Its evaluation criteria, duration and the date for wider rollout have not been stated.
