Kangana Ranaut, whose personality rights suit against obscene and AI-generated content the Delhi High Court issued summons in

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued summons in a suit filed by actor and Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut seeking protection of her personality rights against obscene and AI-generated content and fake news circulating on social media, and issued notice on her application for an interim injunction [Kangana Ranaut v. Meta Platforms & Ors].

Justice Vikas Mahajan heard the matter. The suit is listed for its next hearing in February 2027.

The suit

Appearing for the actor, counsel told the Court that she is being targeted by obscene content on social media, including AI-generated material. These are the plaintiff’s allegations at this stage and have not been tested. The suit seeks protection of her personality rights and the takedown of the impugned content. LawChakra does not reproduce or describe that content.

What the Court directed

Justice Mahajan issued summons in the suit and notice on the interim injunction application. The Court asked the plaintiff’s counsel to furnish the names of the defendants against whom takedown directions are sought. An order on the interim application may follow. The Court has made no finding on the merits of the allegations, and the defendants are yet to respond.

A growing line of personality rights cases

The Delhi High Court has in recent months granted personality rights protection to a range of public figures, including actors, cricketers, politicians and content creators. The present suit adds to that docket and is yet to reach the stage of an interim order.

Why the order matters

The order is a procedural step: it brings the defendants before the Court and sets the stage for a ruling on interim relief. It also shows how the Court is approaching such suits, by asking plaintiffs to identify the specific defendants against whom takedown is sought rather than seeking blanket directions.
