The Telangana Government brought the Telangana Advocates Protection Act, 2026 into force, establishing a stronger legal framework to protect advocates from threats, harassment, intimidation and attacks linked to professional duties, while promoting fearless legal practice and strengthening the independence of the legal profession.
The Supreme Court Bar Association condemned the planned and shocking murder of senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin in Hyderabad. Led by Vikas Singh, it stated that the attack was “not merely a crime against an individual but an assault on the institution of justice.”
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a petition seeking protection of lawyers’ privileges. Advocate Aaditya Gore has been pursuing the Advocates (Protection) Bill since 2014.
The Delhi High Court directed the Delhi government to expedite the enactment of the Advocates Protection Bill, which is pending approval. The Coordination Committee of All District Courts Bar Associations requested access to the draft Bill, leading to a Court order for its release. The next hearing is set for May 28, 2025.
