The Supreme Court Bar Association condemned the planned and shocking murder of senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin in Hyderabad. Led by Vikas Singh, it stated that the attack was “not merely a crime against an individual but an assault on the institution of justice.”
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) strongly condemned the planned, brutal, and shocking murder of senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin in Hyderabad.
It also urged a fair, expeditious and thorough investigation to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
Senior lawyer Khaja Moizuddin, 63, reportedly died after being run over by unidentified assailants in an SUV on May 23.
The SCBA, led by senior advocate Vikas Singh, issued a statement declaring that,
“The attack resulting in the death of a member of the Bar is not merely a crime against an individual but an assault on the institution of justice itself.”
In the resolution, signed by SCBA Secretary Pragya Baghel, the bar association said the death clearly looks like a planned, brutal and shocking murder of the senior advocate.
The SCBA stated that the incident has deeply unsettled the legal community and highlighted serious concerns about the safety and security of advocates carrying out their professional responsibilities. It added that the legal profession is a key pillar of the justice delivery system, and violence against advocates strikes at the foundations of the rule of law.
Police said Moizuddin was about to enter his car when an SUV without a number plate struck him near his residence in Masab Tank, Hyderabad. He was rushed to a hospital but died while undergoing treatment. Authorities also said that videos showing the moment he was hit had gone viral.
Moizuddin’s son alleged that his father had been actively pursuing matters related to encroachment and the alleged grabbing of waqf properties by certain individuals, who he claimed were behind the attack.
He further said that five earlier attempts had been made on his father, and that the alleged waqf encroachers threatened him in order to pressure his father to stop fighting the cases against them.
Based on the complaint filed by Moizuddin’s son, police registered a murder case, officials said.
