The Supreme Court Bar Association announced that all retiring Supreme Court judges will be granted honorary SCBA membership, with President Vikas Singh stating the initiative aims to strengthen Bench-Bar relations, encourage interaction with retired judges and enable lawyers to benefit from their judicial experience.
The Supreme Court Bar Association condemned the planned and shocking murder of senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin in Hyderabad. Led by Vikas Singh, it stated that the attack was “not merely a crime against an individual but an assault on the institution of justice.”
The Supreme Court refused to change its earlier order that had stopped the counting of votes for the Bar Council of Delhi elections following allegations of tampering. It directed Delhi High Court to hear the pleas on May 25.
Today, On 6th February, The Supreme Court directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to ensure lawyer Mukut Nath Verma appears in court. Verma has allegedly made “scandalous and frivolous” allegations against Supreme Court judges and members of the SCBA election committee.
Today, On 5th February, The Supreme Court will hear SCBA’s contempt plea on the shoe hurling incident after three weeks, with the Solicitor General set to examine draft guidelines. The CJI told the counsel, “Very well. You can take it at ease.”
Justice GR Swaminathan questioned Senior Advocate Vikas Singh over reported remarks suggesting the judge had political ambitions during the Thiruparankundram lamp-lighting contempt hearing. The Madras High Court also sought an explanation from the State Chief Secretary over alleged non-compliance with court orders.
Today, On 17th December, Supreme Court today heard a contempt plea over alleged shoe-hurling at former CJI B R Gavai during proceedings. The Bench said preventive measures are needed, as SCBA and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta agreed to give suggestions to Court.
