NEW DELHI: In the ongoing defamation case filed by former Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain against BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, the counsel for BJP MP has made submissions in the Rouse Avenue court, alleging that the complaint against her is ‘politically motivated‘.

The case is currently being heard at Rouse Avenue Court, and the court has adjourned the proceedings for further hearing until January 22, 2025.

BRIEF:

The case began when Bansuri Swaraj allegedly made defamatory remarks during an interview aired on October 5, 2023. Jain claims that these statements, which were viewed by millions of people, were false and malicious. Specifically, Swaraj is accused of stating that Rs 3 crores, 1.8 kilograms of gold, and 133 gold coins were recovered from Jain’s house during an Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid. Jain strongly denies these claims and believes they were made to harm his public image.

Jain’s lawyer, Advocate Rajat Bhardwaj, along with Mohd. Irshad, appeared in court for the former minister. On the other hand, Bansuri Swaraj was represented by Advocate Siddhesh Kotwal. The court issued a notice to Swaraj on December 16, 2024, and directed her to respond to the defamation complaint.
