Today, On 20th February, A Delhi court rejected the defamation case filed by AAP leader Satyendar Jain against BJP leader Bansuri Swaraj. Jain had accused Swaraj of making defamatory remarks against him. The court ruled that the statements did not warrant legal action. This decision marks a legal victory for Swaraj in the ongoing political tussle.

New Delhi: A Delhi court dismissed a criminal defamation complaint filed by AAP leader Satyendra Jain against BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj on Thursday.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal declined to take cognizance of the matter, stating,

“Cognisance declined. Dismissed.”

Jain had alleged that during a TV interview on October 5, 2023, Swaraj made defamatory remarks about him, which he claimed were viewed by millions. He contended that Swaraj falsely asserted that Rs 3 crore, along with 1.8 kilograms of gold and 133 gold coins, were recovered from his residence.

According to Jain’s complaint, Swaraj’s statements were intended to defame him and to gain an unfair political advantage. He further alleged that Swaraj labeled him as “corrupt” and a “fraud.”

The case began when Bansuri Swaraj allegedly made defamatory remarks during an interview aired on October 5, 2023. Jain claims that these statements, which were viewed by millions of people, were false and malicious.

Specifically, Swaraj is accused of stating that Rs 3 crores, 1.8 kilograms of gold, and 133 gold coins were recovered from Jain’s house during an Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid. Jain strongly denies these claims and believes they were made to harm his public image.

In earlier proceedings, the court had allowed Jain to present pre-summoning evidence before issuing any notices.

The court’s next hearing is scheduled for January 22, 2025, when it will review the submissions and decide on the course of action.

Jain’s defamation case against Bansuri Swaraj continues to unfold, and the next hearing will likely bring more developments. The case is being watched closely by political observers, as it involves high-profile figures from both the AAP and BJP, two of Delhi’s leading political parties.
