The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested a court reader at Tis Hazari Courts for allegedly taking a bribe to influence a bail order. He was caught red-handed during a trap while accepting ₹20,000, part of a ₹30,000 illegal demand.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a court reader working in the court of an Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) at the Tis Hazari Courts complex in Delhi. The arrest was made in a corruption case where the official is accused of asking for and taking a bribe in return for helping in getting a bail application approved.
As per the information shared by the CBI, the case started after a complaint was filed against the accused. The complainant alleged that the court reader, who was posted as Reader to ASJ-02 at Tis Hazari Courts, demanded a bribe of ₹30,000. The money was allegedly asked to “facilitate” the grant of bail for the complainant’s client. This raised serious concerns about misuse of position and interference in the judicial process.
Taking the complaint seriously, the CBI registered a case on April 23, 2026. The agency acted quickly on the “specific allegations made in the complaint” and began planning a trap operation to catch the accused in the act.
On the same day, the CBI laid a trap. During this operation, the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹20,000 from the complainant. This amount was said to be part-payment of the total demanded bribe of ₹30,000. The successful trap confirmed the allegations and provided strong evidence against the accused.
Immediately after being caught, the accused was taken into custody by the CBI officials. The agency confirmed that strict action is being taken in the matter and the investigation is ongoing.
In its official statement, the CBI once again emphasized its “firm commitment to curbing corruption” among public servants. The agency also encouraged people to come forward and report any such incidents of corruption or bribery involving government officials.
The CBI further informed that complaints can be filed directly at the Office of the CBI, Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), Delhi. Citizens can also report such cases through the helpline numbers provided by the agency.
The investigation is still in progress, and the CBI is looking into all aspects of the case to ensure that complete justice is delivered and any wider involvement is also uncovered.
