The Karnataka government has appointed senior advocates Omar Hoda and Kunal Vajani as Additional Advocates General to represent the state before the Supreme Court of India. The move aims to strengthen Karnataka’s legal representation in constitutional cases, civil disputes, and significant legal matters.

The Karnataka government has appointed senior advocates Omar Hoda and Kunal Vajani as Additional Advocates General (AAGs) for the State of Karnataka to represent the state in matters before the Supreme Court of India.
The appointments are expected to strengthen Karnataka’s legal representation before the country’s highest judicial forum, particularly in constitutional matters, civil disputes, and cases involving important questions of law.
Omar Hoda:: Omar Hoda is a prominent advocate practicing before the Supreme Court of India and has extensive experience in constitutional, human rights, and public law matters. Before his appointment by Karnataka, he served as the Additional Advocate General for the State of Chhattisgarh before the Supreme Court, where he represented the state in several significant legal proceedings.
Known for his involvement in high-profile litigation, Hoda has appeared in matters involving fundamental rights, constitutional issues, and questions concerning civil liberties. He has represented notable individuals and handled cases involving allegations of political pressure, personal liberty, and constitutional protections.

Apart from his legal practice, Hoda has also been associated with public service initiatives. He served as the National Coordinator for Human Rights, Law & RTIs for the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
Hoda holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and is enrolled with the Bar Council of India. Originally from Patna, Bihar, he was raised in New Delhi and is currently based in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
Kunal Vajani:: Kunal Vajani is a renowned dispute resolution lawyer, arbitrator, and strategic legal advisor with nearly two decades of experience. He specialises in complex civil and commercial disputes, constitutional litigation, white-collar matters, and international arbitration.
Vajani has now been appointed as an Additional Advocate General for Karnataka before the Supreme Court, where he will assist in presenting and defending the state’s cases before the apex court.
Before starting his independent practice through the Chambers of Kunal Vajani, he served as the Joint Managing Partner at Fox & Mandal, becoming one of the youngest and first lateral professionals to hold the leadership position at the firm. He stepped down from the role in early 2026 to focus on independent counsel work, litigation, and trial practice.

His professional journey also includes significant international arbitration experience. Vajani served as a Court Member (India) of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris from 2016 to 2024. He has also been appointed as a Court Member of the inaugural Court of Arbitration constituted by the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC).
He is qualified as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England & Wales and also holds rights of audience before the DIFC Courts in Dubai, reflecting his international legal exposure.
With Omar Hoda’s expertise in constitutional and human rights litigation and Kunal Vajani’s extensive background in commercial disputes and arbitration, Karnataka’s new legal team before the Supreme Court brings together diverse experience aimed at effectively handling the state’s crucial matters before the apex court.
