New Delhi: On August 28, the Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) expressed deep sorrow over the sudden demise of Advocate Ravinder Sharma, who passed away today due to a heart attack.

Sharma was actively participating in a protest against the notification issued by the Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi on 13th August 2025, which designated police stations as the locations for officers to depose before courts.

In an official notice issued today, the DHCBA stated,

“The Delhi High Court Bar Association mourns the sad and untimely demise of Sh. Ravinder Sharma, Advocate, who lost his life today due to a Heart-Attack while participating in the agitation against the notification dated 13.08.2025 issued by the Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital of Territory.”

The association also expressed its support for the family of the late advocate, saying,

“The Delhi High Court Bar Association firmly stands in solidarity with the family of Sh. Ravinder Sharma, Advocate and offers its support to the grieving family during this difficult time.”

Sharma’s death has left the legal fraternity in shock, as he was known for his active involvement in court matters and advocacy for lawyers’ rights.

The recent notification by the Lieutenant Governor had sparked widespread opposition from members of the legal community, who argued that compelling officers to depose only at police stations could create practical difficulties in ongoing legal proceedings and affect the administration of justice.

DHCBA President N. Hariharan and Honorary Secretary Vikram Singh Panwar jointly signed the notice, emphasizing the Bar Association’s commitment to stand by its members and their families in challenging times.

The incident has drawn attention to the delicate balance between administrative notifications and the functioning of the judiciary, prompting legal experts to review the implications of the new rules.

The sudden passing of Advocate Sharma during the protest serves as a somber reminder of the intensity and passion with which legal professionals often engage in defending their principles and ensuring justice.

The Delhi High Court Bar Association’s statement has resonated across legal circles, with many expressing condolences and solidarity with the bereaved family.
