NEW DELHI: Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud inaugurated the new multi-facilitation centre within the Supreme Court premises, marking a significant step towards enhancing accessibility and efficiency in the judicial system.

In his address during the inauguration, CJI Chandrachud emphasized the centre’s pivotal role in the Supreme Court’s access to justice mission. He remarked,

“This is a multi-facilitation centre which has been set up in the Supreme Court as part of the access to justice mission. The idea of this multi-facilitation centre is right at the entry point of the Supreme Court. All litigants or lawyers coming to the court must have a single point where they can file cases, obtain information about cases… So I hope this facility will enhance the quality of service which the Supreme Court renders to all the citizens of the country.”

The inauguration event was attended by other esteemed judges of the Supreme Court and numerous staff members, underscoring the collective commitment to improving judicial services. The multi-facilitation centre is strategically located opposite the UCO Bank near C-IN Gate within the main campus, ensuring easy accessibility for all visitors.

A Supreme Court source provided an extensive overview of the centre’s features, highlighting its comprehensive amenities designed to cater to the needs of advocates, litigants, and visitors. The centre boasts 68 cubicles specifically designed for advocates to work in a conducive environment. Additionally, there are lockers and cabins designated for oath commissioners, ensuring that all necessary legal formalities can be efficiently conducted within the premises.

The centre also includes a consultation room where lawyers and their clients can discuss cases in a private and professional setting. This room is a critical addition, providing a space for confidential consultations, thereby upholding the privacy and integrity of legal proceedings.

Moreover, the multi-facilitation centre is equipped with essential services such as a stationery shop and a chemist shop. These facilities ensure that all immediate needs of litigants and lawyers are met conveniently within the court premises, eliminating the need for them to venture outside for basic supplies.

For the comfort of litigants and visitors, the centre features a common waiting area with a sitting capacity of around 50 persons. This waiting area is designed to provide a comfortable and orderly environment for individuals awaiting their turn in court or legal proceedings.

This initiative is part of a broader vision to modernize the judicial infrastructure and streamline processes to make justice more accessible and user-friendly. The multi-facilitation centre represents a significant advancement in the Supreme Court’s efforts to serve the public better by integrating various essential services under one roof.

The facility aims to reduce the complexities involved in navigating the court system, thus enhancing the overall efficiency and effectiveness of judicial services.

Through the establishment of this multi-facilitation centre, the Supreme Court reaffirms its commitment to upholding the principles of justice, accessibility, and service to the citizens of India.
