Three judicial officers were elevated to the Jharkhand High Court on September 23, taking oath before Chief Justice MS Sonak. Their appointment had been notified by the Central Government last week, adding three judges to the strength of the High Court.
Ranchi: Judicial Officers Manoj Prasad, Akhil Kumar and Ram Sharma were sworn in as Judges of the Jharkhand High Court on September 23, 2026.
The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice MS Sonak. The Central Government had notified the three judicial officers’ appointment as High Court judges last week.
The elevation
With the three officers taking oath, the Jharkhand High Court adds to its working strength. The elevation of judicial officers, that is, serving members of the district judiciary, to the High Court is one of the two established routes to the High Court bench, the other being the elevation of members of the Bar; the appointments are made by the President on the recommendation of the collegium, and take effect on the officers being administered the oath by the Chief Justice of the High Court.
The swearing-in follows the Central Government’s notification of the appointments the previous week. The three new judges will now be assigned judicial work in accordance with the roster determined by the Chief Justice.
