Bengaluru: Today, on June 26, the Karnataka High Court has temporarily stopped any strict police action against former BJP Member of Parliament Anantkumar Hegde in connection with a road rage case.

This incident reportedly took place on June 23, and an FIR (First Information Report) was filed against him and others involved.

Justice SR Krishnakumar, a single-judge bench of the Karnataka High Court, gave an interim order on Thursday, which means that for now, no harsh steps can be taken against Hegde.

The complaint was made by a person named Khan, who said that he was travelling with his family when the incident happened near Hale Nijagal village in Nelamangala Taluk, which is around 60 kilometers from Bengaluru.

Khan said that the trouble started when his Toyota Innova overtook the vehicle of former MP Hegde — a Mahindra XUV — several times while driving on the highway.

After some time, both cars stopped. According to Khan, Hegde’s gunman and driver came out of the car and began beating him.

He also said that Hegde was present at the spot and encouraged his aides to attack. Khan later went to the police and filed a complaint.

In his police complaint, Khan stated that he was travelling with his family at the time and still got beaten up.

He said that because of the beating, he lost

“two to three teeth.”

He named Anantkumar Hegde along with others in the FIR. The complaint led to the registration of a police case at the Nelamangala Police Station.

The police have charged Hegde and six others under different sections of the new criminal law called the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

These sections include serious charges like

“causing grievous hurt,” “wrongful restraint,” “criminal intimidation,” and also “assault on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.”

Khan’s complaint mentions clearly that

“Hegde’s gunman and driver assaulted him near Hale Nijagal village.”

He also stated that

“Hegde was present at the scene and instigated the attack.”

According to him,

“he was beaten despite travelling with his family” and he “lost two to three teeth in the assault.”

All of these points have been taken seriously by the police, which is why multiple charges have been included in the FIR.
