Mumbai: Business tycoon Anil Ambani has filed a defamation suit in the Bombay High Court against journalist Arnab Goswami and Republic TV. The case has been filed after the channel allegedly aired programmes related to Ambani’s financial transactions, which he claims have seriously harmed his reputation and public image.

According to reports, the petition states that certain broadcasts made by the channel contained defamatory content and created a negative impression about him among the public, business community, and stakeholders.

The plea argues that these broadcasts have caused irreparable damage to his reputation and goodwill, which cannot be compensated easily if the telecast continues.

In the suit, Anil Ambani has requested the court to pass an interim injunction against ARG Outlier Media Pvt Ltd, Arnab Goswami, and other unidentified parties referred to as John Doe. The purpose of this injunction is to stop them from airing, publishing, or circulating any allegedly defamatory content related to him until the matter is fully heard and decided by the court.

The plea emphasizes that if such content continues to be broadcast, it may cause further harm to his personal and professional reputation. Therefore, he has approached the Bombay High Court seeking urgent relief in the form of temporary restraint orders against the defendants.

The matter is likely to come up for hearing on April 1 before Justice Milind Jadhav. At present, the case is at a preliminary stage, and the court is expected to consider whether any interim relief should be granted to Anil Ambani. Legal experts say the case will be closely watched because it involves issues of media freedom, defamation law, and the right to reputation.

The outcome of the hearing may determine whether Republic TV and Arnab Goswami can continue broadcasting the disputed content or whether the court will restrain them until the final decision in the defamation suit.
