In Madhya Pradesh High Court at Gwalior, a divorce case took an unusual turn when a woman claimed her husband’s sister was his ‘second wife’ to secure a decree. The husband has challenged the ex parte order.
The Gujarat High Court set aside the man’s conviction for cruelty and abetment, stating that a single incident of slapping his wife for staying at her parental home without informing was not cruelty while acquitting him in law.
The Orissa High Court upheld the divorce granted to Pranaya Pradhan Nayak, stating, “Wife should support & give respect to husband despite his infirmity,” while dismissing Priyanka Nayak Pradhan’s appeal.
The Allahabad High Court Yesterday (29 Feb) urged the Union of India to consider amending the Hindu Marriage Act to include irretrievable breakdown of marriages as a divorce ground, citing societal changes. It granted a divorce decree to a doctor, noting his wife’s prolonged absence as mental cruelty. The court also directed relevant authorities to consider this matter.
