Two sisters urged the Madhya Pradesh High Court to swap husbands, leaving judges stunned and everyone shocked. The rare case before the Gwalior Bench exposed an unexpected twist as both women openly admitted their wish to exchange partners.

We often hear that relationships can be complicated, but a case that came before the Gwalior Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court left almost everyone judges and lawyers alike thoroughly stunned. Two real sisters told the court that they wished to exchange husbands.

The elder sister said she wanted to live with her younger sister’s husband, while the younger sister expressed her willingness to begin her life with the elder sister’s husband.

Girija Shankar from Datia had approached the High Court by filing a petition claiming that his wife and daughter had been kidnapped.

He alleged that a man named Mayaram had abducted them. But when the police produced the woman before the court, an entirely different story emerged.

She stated in her affidavit,

“My kidnapping has not happened. I am living with my brother-in-law, that is, with Mayaram, of my own free will,”

This unexpected turn dramatically changed the direction of the case.

The most surprising development was that Mayaram’s wife who is also the petitioner’s sister-in-law—did not oppose the arrangement. On the contrary, she supported it.

She told the court,

“If my sister wants to live with my husband, I have no objection. In fact, I also want to live with my brother-in-law (the petitioner).”

When the court heard this, the entire courtroom was left in shock. The judge, too, looked visibly taken aback, stating that such a case was unlike anything he had encountered before.

Notably, both sisters already had children, yet they still chose to proceed with this decision. Ultimately, the High Court observed that the matter was personal in nature and that no offence of kidnapping was established. As a result, the Habeas Corpus petition was dismissed.

Still, the incident left the region astonished. In open court, the two sisters clearly stated that they wished to swap husbands, and both agreed to part from their current marriages and marry each other’s husbands.
