The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has quashed the Public Safety Act detention of a 65-year-old man, holding that bovine transport allegations without any communal tension or law and order problem cannot establish a threat to public order.
Activist Sonam Wangchuk told the Supreme Court that despite winning 30 nation-building awards and openly opposing violence, he is being portrayed as a criminal under the National Security Act. His wife has challenged the detention, arguing that key videos showing his appeal for peace were withheld from the defence.
