Today, On 8th August, Supreme Court lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain expressed his appreciation to the government for the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, describing it as thoroughly researched. Jain commended the government’s efforts in crafting the legislation, highlighting its comprehensive nature and attention to detail.
New Delhi: The Modi 3.0 government introduced the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament today, aiming to make significant changes to the Waqf Board Act. In a notable victory for the center, NDA allies Janata Dal (United) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) expressed their support for the bill.
Prominent Supreme Court lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain also endorsed the bill, describing it as “well-researched.”
Jain shared on social media platform X,
“The very well-researched Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 has been prepared by the central government. I thank the government for understanding the issue and bringing legislative changes to it. This bill will solve the issue and stop illegal activities under the garb of waqf.”
Similarly, Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Shinde voiced strong support for the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, highlighting its efforts to improve representation for Muslim women within the Waqf governance structure.
Despite this support, the bill, which aims to reform the current Waqf Board framework, faced significant opposition, with critics questioning its potential implications.
Similarly, Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Shinde voiced strong support for the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, highlighting its efforts to improve representation for Muslim women within the Waqf governance structure. Shinde pointed out the pressing issue of over 85,000 pending Waqf Board cases in courts nationwide, asserting that the bill aims to streamline case resolution and enhance Waqf property management.
Accusing dissenting parties of resisting efforts that would facilitate the establishment of schools and hospitals on Waqf lands, he stated,
“The opposition’s stance is primarily driven by a desire to protect their vote banks rather than the welfare of the community,”
