The city police have moved the Supreme Court, challenging the Karnataka High Court’s decision to grant bail to actor Darshan and others accused of murdering his fan, Renukaswamy, citing procedural lapses in arrest grounds. The police argue that witness statements differ naturally and should be addressed during the trial, not bail hearings. They also questioned Darshan’s health-based bail claim, noting he only underwent physiotherapy, not surgery. The murder allegedly stemmed from Renukaswamy sending obscene messages to Darshan’s girlfriend, Pavithra Gowda, the prime accused.

These individuals were arrested on charges related to the murder of Darshan’s fan, Renukaswamy.
The high court had granted bail, citing the lack of proper notice to the accused regarding the grounds for their arrest. A police officer explained,
“Such a notice is seriously considered only in Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act cases, and not required in murder cases.”
The officer elaborated on the grounds for the bail and questioned the justification, saying,
“The accused sought bail on grounds that statements of eyewitnesses are different. It is very obvious that eyewitnesses will give their statements based on what they saw. One witness saw the assault, another saw the accused entering the parking yard in Pattangere, while another noticed the accused disposing of the body. These are issues that have to come up during the trial, not during the bail petition.”
Actor Darshan secured bail citing health reasons, but the police officer raised doubts about the legitimacy of this claim.
“Darshan availed bail on health grounds, which haven’t been met; he hasn’t undergone surgery but is only availing physiotherapy. We have considered this point too,”
-the officer added.
The case revolves around the murder of Renukaswamy, who was reportedly kidnapped from Chitradurga and later killed in the parking yard at Pattanagere on June 8, 2024.
The motive for the crime appears to be linked to allegations that Renukaswamy had sent obscene messages to Pavithra Gowda, who is Darshan’s girlfriend and the prime accused in the case.
