The Supreme Court appointed its former judge Hrishikesh Roy as the Bihar Cricket Association ombudsman after Justice Abhay S Oka declined to continue, saying the role involved an adjudicatory function he preferred not to undertake at this time.
The Supreme Court appointed its former judge, Hrishikesh Roy, to serve as the ombudsman of the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA).
The court said that Justice Abhay S Oka, appointed as the BCA ombudsman on March 20, indicated that he does not wish to continue in the role because it would involve an adjudicatory function.
A bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and K V Viswanathan stated in its April 21 order,
“In view of the aforesaid, we appoint Justice Hrishikesh Roy, former judge of this court to act as the Ombudsman of the Bihar Cricket Association,”
The top court was dealing with a matter concerning the Bihar Cricket Association.
In August last year, the Supreme Court had appointed former judge L Nageswara Rao as the ombudsman of the BCA. The court had directed him to hold a formal meeting with the stakeholders and work out the modalities required for the smooth functioning of the association.
In its March 20 order, the bench noted that Justice Rao had submitted an extensive report along with a separate note and had requested that he be relieved of the assignment.
Following this, the bench appointed Justice Oka to act as the BCA ombudsman. Earlier, On April 21, the court scheduled the matter for hearing on May 13, limited to the report submitted by Justice Rao.
