Uzbekistan: Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud met with Chief Justice of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyar Islamov, in Tashkent on Thursday. This bilateral meeting aimed to explore the potential for collaboration between the Supreme Courts of India and Uzbekistan.

CJI Chandrachud is currently in Tashkent to participate in the summit of chief justices from member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). The SCO, established in June 2001 in Shanghai, is a prominent intergovernmental organization focused on regional security, economic development, and cultural exchange among its member states.

Since its inception, the SCO has played a crucial role in addressing regional security challenges, such as terrorism, ethnic separatism, and religious extremism. More recently, the organization has also prioritized regional development and economic cooperation.

During the meeting, CJI Chandrachud and Chief Justice Islamov discussed various aspects of judicial collaboration, including the exchange of legal expertise, judicial training, and the implementation of best practices in the judiciary. They emphasized the importance of strengthening judicial systems through mutual cooperation and learning.
