The Supreme Court of India has officially announced a change in its holiday schedule for Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) for the year 2026. A new circular issued on 22 May 2026 states that the holiday will now be observed on Thursday, 28 May 2026, instead of Wednesday, 27 May 2026.
As per the Government of India’s notification, the holiday has been changed from Wednesday, May 27, 2026, to Thursday, May 28, 2026.
According to the circular issued by the Supreme Court’s Administrative General Branch on May 22, 2026, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India has directed that the Court and the Registry will remain functional on May 27, 2026, instead of observing a holiday on that day.
The circular also states that all matters earlier listed for May 28, 2026, will now stand preponed and will be taken up on May 27, 2026.
The circular has been issued by Registrar (J) Kuntal Sharma Pathak, and a copy has been sent to all concerned departments and officials.
This update is significant for lawyers, litigants, and court staff, as it affects the listing, hearing schedules, and operational planning for the last week of May 2026.
