The Supreme Court of India granted bail to a man accused of attacking senior advocate Y R Sadasiva Reddy in Bengaluru. The Court noted over one year of custody and ordered release with strict trial court conditions.
The Supreme Court of India on Friday granted bail to a man accused of attacking Bar Council of India (BCI) Co-Chairman and Senior Advocate Y R Sadasiva Reddy inside his chamber in Bengaluru.
A Bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta took note of the fact that the accused had already remained in custody for over one year. Considering the period of incarceration, the Court ordered his release on bail, subject to strict conditions to be imposed by the trial court.
As per the case details, the incident dates back to April 16, 2025, when Senior Advocate Reddy was allegedly attacked inside his chamber in Bengaluru. According to reports, a group of unidentified individuals entered the premises and assaulted him using iron rods.
The attack is said to have occurred in the presence of his junior advocate, making the incident even more shocking for the legal community. Due to the brutal nature of the assault, Reddy suffered serious injuries, including multiple fractures in his right forearm, left elbow, and leg.
Following the incident, the Bar Council of India strongly condemned the attack. The BCI described the incident as a deliberate and targeted attempt to threaten and intimidate members of the legal fraternity. It also called for a swift and thorough investigation to ensure accountability.
The Supreme Court, while granting bail, balanced the seriousness of the allegations with the prolonged custody of the accused, emphasizing that appropriate conditions would be imposed to ensure the accused’s presence during trial and prevent any misuse of liberty.
This case has raised serious concerns about the safety of legal professionals in India, especially within court premises and professional spaces. The legal community continues to closely monitor developments as the trial proceeds.
