A Lucknow court has taken cognisance of a complaint against Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge, and others over an alleged “anti-national” statement. The case will be heard on October 1 to record the complainant’s statement.

Lucknow: A legal complaint has been filed in a Lucknow court against Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and five other senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, over an alleged “anti-national” remark.

The case has been filed by Nripendra Pandey, former general secretary of the Central Bar Association. He approached the Special Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) of the MP-MLA court, Alok Verma, who has taken cognisance of the complaint.

The court has fixed October 1 for recording the complainant’s statement.

According to the complaint, the issue relates to an event on January 15 this year, when the new Congress headquarters, Indira Bhawan, was inaugurated on Kotla Road in Delhi.

During the function, it is alleged that Rahul Gandhi said he was “fighting against the nation of India”. The complaint further adds that he said he was

“now fighting against the BJP, the RSS and the nation of India”.

The complainant claims that this statement was made with a

“very balanced state of mind” and with a “deliberate intention to destabilise the country”.

The complaint also describes the statement as “divisive”.

Besides Rahul Gandhi, the complaint names Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rajya Sabha members K C Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh.

It argues that all of them were present at the inauguration and, by not opposing Rahul Gandhi’s words, they gave “tacit consent”, making them complicit in the alleged offence.

The complaint further alleges that Rahul Gandhi is

“unnecessarily raising questions on the functioning of all the prestigious institutions of the country for some specific dangerous purpose”.

It also claims that his actions appear to be part of a

“conspiracy to make India an Islamic nation”.

With the court now scheduled to hear the matter on October 1, the case adds another layer of legal trouble for senior Congress leaders, as their alleged complicity has been directly tied to the controversial remark.
