Karnataka: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi granted bail by a special court in Bengaluru today in connection with a defamation case filed by Karnataka’s BJP unit. The case pertains to “defamatory” advertisements published in mainstream newspapers ahead of last year’s Assembly polls, which accused the then BJP government of large-scale corruption during its 2019-2023 tenure.
The court had earlier, on June 1st, granted bail to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who also serves as the State Congress chief, after their appearance in the defamation case.
Judge K.N. Shivakumar had mandated that Gandhi appear before the court on June 7th without fail.
Previously, the court had granted bail to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and state Congress president D.K. Shivakumar, who are the first and second accused in the case, respectively. Rahul Gandhi is the fourth accused, following Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), which is the third accused.
