[Breaking] Patna Law College Murder: Tragic Lynching of Final Year Law Student on College Campus

Monday, May 27, 2024, in the Patna Law College campus, as Harsh Raj, a final year student, became the target of a brutal lynching. More than 10 unidentified attackers, armed with hockey sticks, iron rods, bricks, and sticks, perpetrated the heinous act.

Patna, Bihar: On Monday (May 27, 2024) : In the Patna Law College campus, a final year student, Harsh Raj, fell victim to a brutal lynching. The incident, perpetrated by more than 10 unidentified assailants wielding hockey sticks, iron rods, bricks, and sticks, has sent shockwaves through the community.

Harsh Raj, a promising undergraduate student of Functional English Vocational Course at B N College, succumbed to severe head injuries inflicted during the attack.

As investigations unfold, questions arise about the motive behind this heinous act and the safety measures within educational institutions.

Despite attempts to flee, Harsh Raj was cornered and brutally assaulted, eventually succumbing to his injuries at Patna Medical College and Hospital. The assailants, their faces concealed, left behind a grieving family, shattered dreams, and a community in mourning.

Harsh Raj, a resident of Vaishali district, met his untimely demise shortly after completing his exams.

Eyewitnesses, including his friend Bahu Kumar, recount the horrifying ordeal of a mob attack near the Law College auditorium.

“Upon exiting the exam hall, over 10 individuals launched a sudden attack. I, too, endured blows from sticks but managed to escape. Harsh attempted to flee as well, but unfortunately, he collided with a tree, causing him to fall. It was then that the mob apprehended him. Many of the assailants had concealed their identities with masks or coverings.”

Amidst the grief, speculation about the motives behind Harsh Raj’s lynching surfaces. Anonymous sources suggest a connection to his intention to contest the upcoming Patna University Student’s Union (PUSU) election, defying warnings from his father, Ajit Kumar.

Harsh Raj’s active involvement in social causes, including COVID-19 relief efforts and leadership in Lok Nayak Yuva Parishad, further underscores his impact within the student community.

Additionally, his participation in political campaigns, such as supporting Shambhavi Kunal Choudhary in the recent Lok Sabha elections, raises concerns about potential adversaries.

Harsh Raj’s father, a local journalist, files a First Information Report (FIR), urging authorities to apprehend the perpetrators.

Political figures, including Ms. Choudhary, condemn the senseless violence and appeal for a thorough investigation. Patna University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor K.C. Sinha, expresses profound sorrow and suspends ongoing examinations, emphasizing the need for immediate action.

In his statement,

Ms. Choudhary lamented the loss of Harsh Raj, emphasizing their close bond during the Samastipur elections and beyond. She condemned the heinous act perpetrated by “anti-social elements” that resulted in Harsh’s tragic demise at Patna Law College. Urging the administration to conduct a thorough investigation, she implored for the swift identification and apprehension of the culprits. Ms. Choudhary highlighted the profound impact of Harsh’s passing, noting the devastating loss experienced by his family, with a mother bereft of her son and a father deprived of his support in old age.

Expressing profound grief, Professor K.C. Sinha, the Vice-Chancellor of Patna University, conveyed the collective shock of the university administration in response to the tragic incident resulting in the loss of a student’s life. Urging law enforcement authorities to identify and take strong action against the perpetrators, he emphasized the cancellation of all ongoing examinations until further notice.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. The police are actively engaged in efforts to identify the culprits through an investigation that includes the scrutiny of CCTV footage from the Law College campus. A police official stating, that continuous raids are being conducted to apprehend the responsible individuals.
