Mumbai Court Upholds Aditya Pancholi’s Conviction in 2005 Parking Assault Case, Modifies Jail Term

Mumbai: A sessions court in Mumbai has upheld the conviction of actor Aditya Pancholi in a 2005 parking assault case but has modified the one-year jail term handed down by a magistrate.

Instead of serving the sentence, the court ordered Pancholi’s release on a bond of good behaviour under the Probation of Offenders Act. However, the court directed the 59-year-old actor to pay Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation to the victim, Pratik Pashine, in order to avail this benefit.

In November 2016, the Metropolitan Magistrate (Andheri) convicted Pancholi under IPC Section 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and sentenced him to one year of simple imprisonment for assaulting Pashine over a parking dispute in 2005.

Pancholi had later appealed against his conviction and sentencing.

On Thursday, Additional Sessions Judge D G Dhoble partly allowed Pancholi’s appeal and ruled that he need not serve the jail term. Instead, the court emphasized that the actor must compensate the victim while being released on good behaviour.

This verdict marks a significant relief for Aditya Pancholi, who has been fighting the case for nearly two decades.
