A special court dismissed a complaint alleging CM Siddaramaiah and others caused Rs 68 crore BBMP ad losses. The court found the charges baseless and lacking any solid evidence.

Bengaluru: On May 6, A Special Court in Bengaluru has recently dismissed a complaint that accused Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Minister K J George, and three senior government officials of being part of a conspiracy to cause major financial losses to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) through advertisement-related decisions between the years 2015 and 2017.

The complaint was filed by N R Ramesh, a former BJP leader and ex-corporator, who claimed that during Siddaramaiah’s previous term as Chief Minister (from 2013 to 2018), the BBMP suffered huge advertisement revenue losses amounting to Rs 68.14 crore.

However, the court found that the complaint had no solid ground or supporting evidence.

In its detailed order, the court clearly said that the allegations were mostly based on guesses and assumptions, rather than any actual proof.

the court noted,

“The entire complaint is based on surmises and conjectures,”

It also mentioned that no specific legal provisions were shown to prove that a criminal offence had really happened in the way the complainant had alleged.

The court further added that

“there is no material to show that any criminal offence has been committed,” and that the documents submitted along with the complaint were not strong enough to take the case forward.

It observed that

“there is no whisper of evidence,” pointing out the lack of even minimal proof to support the claims made in the complaint.

The court made it clear that the complaint seemed more like a political move rather than a genuine legal concern.

Court Rejects Rs 68 Crore Ad Loss Complaint Against CM Siddaramaiah, Minister

the court said,

“The allegations are vague and general in nature,” underlining that such serious charges must be backed by concrete evidence and not broad, unclear statements.

With this, the Special Court rejected the complaint and refused to order any investigation or legal action against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Minister K J George, or the three senior officers involved.

The case had drawn attention because of the high-profile names involved, but with this decision, the court has clarified that baseless accusations without proper legal proof cannot be used to harass public servants or politicians.

This judgment is being seen as a significant step in preventing politically motivated legal actions, where accusations are made without proper backing just to damage reputations.
