The Karnataka High Court agreed to the postponement. The court said it would accommodate the lawyers’ convenience while scheduling the next date for the hearing.

Karnataka: Today, 28th April, The Karnataka High Court has agreed to postpone the hearing of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s appeal related to the MUDA (Mysuru Urban Development Authority) case.

Siddaramaiah had filed the appeal to challenge a single judge’s order, which had upheld Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s approval for investigating him regarding alleged irregularities.

During the hearing, Siddaramaiah’s lawyer requested a short delay. He asked the court, “for the hearing to be scheduled for June 10.

Senior Advocate K.G. Raghavan, who is appearing for the complainant Snehamayi Krishna, explained to the court that the current appeal filed by Siddaramaiah is “challenging the decision of a single judge who refused to send the case to the CBI for investigation.”

At the same time, another lawyer requested that “the hearing to be scheduled in July” instead of June.

Attorney General Shashi Kiran Shetty informed the court that “most of the lawyers will need to come from Delhi” for the hearing. This was another reason given for requesting a later date.

Senior Advocate K.G. Raghavan further suggested that “the lawyers will check and give a date to the court officer” after consulting amongst themselves.

Considering the requests from all sides, the Karnataka High Court agreed to the postponement. The court said it would accommodate the lawyers’ convenience while scheduling the next date for the hearing.

BACKGROUND

The case involves allegations of corruption in the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) granting land to Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi. The Karnataka Governor granted sanction on July 26 to prosecute the CM following private complaints by activists TJ Abraham, Snehamai Krishna, and Pradeep Kumar SP.

The complainants alleged that MUDA granted inflated compensation for 14 parcels of land in exchange for development work on 3 acres of land owned by Parvathi. These 3 acres were reportedly gifted to Parvathi by her brother, Mallikarjuna Swamy, who had acquired the land in 2004 from Devaraju.

The original landowner, Devaraju, has now claimed that he is being unfairly dragged into the political dispute. Represented by Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave, Devaraju expressed his frustration with the situation, pointing out that he was not involved in the political drama.
