Indore man Raja Raghuvanshi was killed during his honeymoon in Meghalaya. His wife Sonam, who allegedly hired hitmen, has been arrested after two weeks on the run.

Meghalaya: Today, on June 09, in a shocking turn of events, Meghalaya Police have arrested the wife of an Indore man named Raja Raghuvanshi, who was allegedly murdered while on his honeymoon in the state.
According to the police, the woman, identified as Sonam Raghuvanshi, had gone missing for almost two weeks before surrendering in Uttar Pradesh.
The police allege that she had hired a group of men to murder her husband just days after their wedding in Madhya Pradesh.
Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) I Nongrang confirmed the arrest and said,
“Four persons, including the wife, were arrested in connection with the Indore man’s murder in Meghalaya.”
She further added,
“The wife was allegedly involved in the Indore man’s murder during honeymoon in Meghalaya. She had hired killers.”
Sonam was missing since May 23, the day she and her husband were last seen during their honeymoon in Meghalaya.

She eventually surrendered at the Nandganj police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. Nongrang stated,
“Sonam surrendered at the Nandganj police station in UP, and was subsequently arrested.”
Meanwhile, three other accused were taken into custody during overnight raids.
Giving further updates on the arrests, the DGP said,
“One person was picked up from UP, and another two accused were apprehended from Indore by the SIT.”
Nongrang also informed that the arrested individuals had admitted to the crime during questioning.
she added,
“The operation is still continuing in Madhya Pradesh to catch some more persons involved in the crime,”
The case has drawn widespread attention across the country. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma praised the police for their swift investigation and quick action. In a post on social media platform X, Sangma wrote,
“Within 7 days, a major breakthrough has been achieved by the Meghalaya Police in the Raja murder case. 3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, a female has surrendered, and the operation is still on to catch one more assailant.”
Earlier, Raja Raghuvanshi’s body was found in a deep gorge at Sohrarim near Cherrapunji on June 2. The couple had been reported missing since May 23.
Sonam was untraceable until her surrender in UP. Following the discovery of Raja’s body, his family appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.
Raja’s brother, Vipul Raghuvanshi, told media,
“We have written a letter to the Prime Minister requesting a CBI inquiry and submitted it at the commissioner’s office. We want the PM and the Chief Minister to extend their support to us, and a CBI investigation should be conducted into the matter. It could bring justice to Raja and make finding Sonam easier. The way the Meghalaya police are working on this case, they won’t bring justice to Raja.”
New details have also come to light through a local tourist guide named Albert Pde, who had last seen the couple. Speaking to the media, the guide said he saw Raja and Sonam on May 23, the day they went missing, along with three men in the Sohra area.
Pde said,
“The four men were walking ahead while the woman was behind. The four men were conversing in Hindi, but I could not understand what they were saying, as I know only Khasi and English.”
Pde added that he had met the couple on May 22 and offered to guide them to Nongriat village, but they had declined and hired another local guide instead.
He said,
“On May 22, I had offered to guide them to Nongriat, but they had hired another guide named Bha Wansai, stayed at Shipara Homestay overnight, and returned the next day without a guide.”
He also mentioned,
“By the time I reached Mawlakhiat, their scooter was not there.”
