Kolkata Law College Gang Rape | ‘Bengal’s Daughters Deserve Justice’: BJP Fact-Finding Team Submits Report Urging Centre To Take Steps

KOLKATA: In the wake of the horrific Kolkata Law College gang rape, the BJP fact-finding team has accused the TMC government of failing to protect women in West Bengal. The team highlighted FIR tampering and political shielding, demanding justice and central action.

In a scathing critique of the law and order situation in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has submitted a damning fact-finding report on the recent gang rape of a 24-year-old student at a law college in South Kolkata.

The incident, which occurred on June 25, has triggered nationwide outrage, with the BJP accusing the state government of shielding the accused and failing to uphold the rule of law.

The report was presented to BJP National President J.P. Nadda by the party’s monitoring committee, which included Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and ex-IPS officer Dr. Satya Pal Singh.

Speaking at a press conference, Nadda condemned the “complete collapse of governance” in Bengal and highlighted a series of incidents that paint a grim picture of women’s safety across the state. Nadda said,

“A law college—an institution meant to uphold justice—has become the scene of a heinous crime. The silence and inaction of the state administration are both shameful and alarming.”

He added that the state’s response showed a pattern of indifference, from Sandeshkhali to the R.G. Kar Hospital case, and now this.

Dr. Singh, drawing on his decades of experience in police service, described disturbing irregularities in the police investigation. He stated that not only were the names of the accused omitted from the FIR, but even their initials were manipulated. “Such manipulation points to a dangerous collapse of justice,” he warned, further noting that the main accused had a history of similar allegations yet continued to enjoy political protection.

The report also pointed fingers at the local political leadership, alleging that the accused was appointed to a position of power through the influence of the governing body’s chairman, who also serves as a local MLA. BJP MP Biplab Deb added that the private security agency responsible for the college was hired at the recommendation of a Trinamool Congress leader, further compromising student safety.

Moreover, the team reported being unable to meet the victim’s family, who were reportedly under “police care” with no public access or updates on their whereabouts.

The BJP’s findings have prompted calls for central intervention, with the party demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee if swift justice is not delivered. The report is expected to serve as a key political instrument in the BJP’s campaign to highlight governance failures in the state, especially in protecting women.

As public anger grows, the BJP has announced plans to intensify its protests, seeking immediate arrests and stringent punishment for those responsible. The law college incident has now become a flashpoint in West Bengal’s larger debate over law enforcement, political accountability, and women’s safety.
