RG Kar victim’s father condemns repeated crimes against women in Bengal, blames Mamata govt.
Demands strict punishment as three TMC-linked accused are arrested in law student gangrape case.

NEW DELHI: Yesterday, on June 28, Almost a year after the horrifying rape and murder of a student at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, another heart-wrenching incident has shaken the city.
This time, a young female law student was allegedly gang-raped inside her college building located in the Kasba area of South Kolkata on Wednesday evening.
The case has reignited serious concerns about the safety of women, especially within educational institutions.
The incident took place between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm inside the law college premises. According to Kolkata Police, one of the accused sexually assaulted the student while the other two aided him in the crime.
The three accused—Monojit Mishra (31), Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukhopadhyay (20)—were either former students or staff members of the college.
All three accused have been arrested. The police said that Monojit and Zaib were caught on Thursday near Talbagan Crossing, and Pramit was later arrested at his residence the same night.
The mobile phones of all three have been seized for evidence, and the crime scene has been preserved for forensic examination.
Following the disturbing crime, the father of the RG Kar Medical College victim, whose daughter was raped and murdered in a similar manner last year, expressed his grief and frustration over the recurrence of such heinous acts.
He placed the blame squarely on the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government and demanded strict punishment for the perpetrators.
He said,
“Such incidents are happening again and again. After what happened with my daughter, many people came out on the streets in protest. Even after that, such incidents continue to occur. People inside the college are committing such incidents. The government has a significant role in this, which is why all these incidents are happening. All three people arrested are from the TMC, so this political party should ensure that such incidents do not happen again. The accused should be severely punished.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also reacted sharply to the case and targeted the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the BJP commented,
“TMC stands for Terror, Molester, and Corruption.”
In response, TMC leader and cabinet minister Shashi Panja stated that she was extremely disturbed by the incident and strongly defended the swift action taken by the police. However, she also accused the BJP of politicising the tragedy.
She said,
“There was an immediate postmortem and dissection to look at the names and the religion. You have to condemn the incident. You are now trying to show photographs. Trinamool Congress Student wing is not teaching the students to rape. The police took immediate action, and within 12 hours of the complaint, three people were caught. They are in custody, and the investigation is on. Their mobile phones have been seized, and the victim’s statement has been taken. She has named the accused. It has been taken seriously. The BJP cannot even think the way Kolkata police swung into action. They started maligning since such swift action is missing in the BJP-ruled states. If they want to be in Bengal as a responsible Opposition, then they have to behave responsibly.”
