Suraj Kumar Bauddh has approached Attorney General R. Venkataramani seeking consent to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against religious preacher Aniruddhacharya and YouTuber Ajeet Bharti (@ajeetbharti).
This move comes in response to their threats and abusive remarks against Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai following the October 6 attack inside the Supreme Court.

Bauddh highlighted that such statements are not just offensive but have serious implications for the judiciary. In his communication to the AG, he emphasized that these remarks
“incite violence against judges and endanger the independence of the judiciary.”
He urged the Attorney General to grant consent to take strict legal action against the individuals responsible.
He also highlighted the unprecedented nature of such behaviour, warning that it creates an environment that could restrict judges from performing their duties fearlessly.
“These statements and actions are aimed at provoking violence against the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India and other judges. The tone and tenor of such public provocation are extremely dangerous, and these posts have gone viral, creating heated debates and escalating tensions. Such behavior is unprecedented in the history of the Supreme Court of India. If such individuals are not brought to justice, the independence of the judiciary and the foundation of our democracy could be placed in peril. No court or judge should be prevented from discharging their duties without fear or favor.”
Bauddh further requested the Attorney General’s written consent to proceed legally against the accused, stating,
“In light of the above, it is request you to give consent in writing to initiate the proceedings for Criminal Contempt against Aniruddhacharya alias Aniruddh Ram Tiwari and Ajeet Bharati, and necessary proceedings initiated against the guilty parties to uphold the dignity, independence, and safety of our judiciary.”
He specifically sought the initiation of criminal contempt proceedings under Section 15 of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971.

The October 6 attempted attack had already created nationwide shock. The lawyer, Rakesh Kishore, tried to throw a shoe at the CJI during court proceedings and shouted that insults to Sanatan Dharma would not be tolerated while being escorted out by security personnel. The Delhi Police later let him off after the Supreme Court Registrar General declined to pursue further legal action.
The attack and subsequent threats drew condemnation from political leaders across the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Chief Ministers MK Stalin, Pinarayi Vijayan, Siddaramaiah, Revanth Reddy, and Mamata Banerjee, among others, expressed their solidarity with the Chief Justice.
Leading legal bodies also condemned the act, including the Supreme Court Bar Association, the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association, and major bar associations from several High Courts. Following the incident, the Bar Council of India suspended the lawyer involved.
Earlier, the Supreme Court of India dismissed a petition seeking to replace a damaged 7-foot idol of Lord Vishnu at the Javari temple in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh.
The petitioner, Rakesh Dalal, argued that restoring the idol, which was decapitated during Mughal invasions centuries ago, was essential to revive the temple’s sanctity and resume worship.
The Javari temple, constructed by the Chandela rulers between 1050 and 1075 AD, is part of the Khajuraho temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Devotees have long claimed that the broken idol has hindered prayers at the sanctum sanctorum.
Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, heading the bench, dismissed the plea with sharp remarks. Addressing Dalal, he said:
“This is purely publicity interest litigation, Go and ask the deity itself to do something now. You say you are a staunch devotee of Lord Vishnu. So go and pray now.”
The comment, quickly went viral, provoking widespread outrage. For Dalal and supporters, the ruling was not only a legal setback but also a perceived insult to Hindu sentiments.
The controversy over the Lord Vishnu remarks has intensified public calls for the impeachment of Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai. Social media campaigns demanding “Impeach the CJI” gained rapid traction, led by retired officials, religious activists, and prominent social influencers.
Additionally, Aniruddhacharya Maharaj strongly criticized the Chief Justice of India for comments perceived as disrespectful to Lord Vishnu and Sanatan Dharma. He urged judges to deliver justice instead of leaving it solely to divine power, sparking nationwide debate.
He stated,
“ If the judge believes that God will do everything, then, Why are you breaking the judge’s chair? Why brother? You have been made a judge, not because you do justice. You should do justice.”
Later on 18th September,Chief Justice of India clarified in court that his remarks were wrongly portrayed on social media, stressing,
“I have respect for all religions,”
as #ImpeachTheCJI trended online over the Lord Vishnu idol restoration plea.
