With this new partnership, NLU Delhi will also be starting a Centre for Constitutional Studies. This new centre will focus on deep legal research and learning in constitutional matters.
Justice Chandrachud will lead and guide the research direction of the centre.
His experience and knowledge as a judge who delivered several important judgments will be the foundation for many future research works and academic discussions.
Speaking on this important development, Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.S. Bajpai said,
“Justice Chandrachud’s legacy in constitutional morality, transformative constitutionalism, and dynamic interpretation of fundamental rights offers unparalleled empirical and doctrinal material for academic inquiry.”
This quote shows how valuable Justice Chandrachud’s work has been in shaping Indian constitutional law. His legal ideas and judgments have set new standards and opened new areas for academic study.
This collaboration is expected to improve both teaching and research work at NLU Delhi.
It will especially strengthen the university’s contribution in the area of constitutional law, by involving students and scholars in real-time legal thinking and interpretation under the guidance of one of India’s most respected jurists.
Another important initiative under this collaboration is a new lecture series. The university will launch a special event titled ‘In the Spirit of Justice: The DYC Distinguished Lecture Series’, which will start from July 2025.

This lecture series will focus on the major judgments authored by Justice Chandrachud when he was the Chief Justice of India.
These judgments cover important topics such as the right to privacy, LGBTQ+ rights, gender equality, freedom in the digital world, and reforms in the judiciary.
Through this lecture series, students, researchers, and the legal community will get a chance to understand Justice Chandrachud’s views directly from his own perspective.
The event will be a platform to learn about the reasoning and constitutional principles behind some of the most historic and progressive decisions made by the Indian Supreme Court in recent times.
Overall, NLU Delhi’s move to bring Justice D.Y. Chandrachud onboard as a Distinguished Professor and to set up a dedicated Centre for Constitutional Studies shows the university’s serious efforts to promote quality legal education and research.
