Delhi Police has registered an FIR after Congress’ Bihar unit shared an AI-generated video showing PM Modi and his late mother. BJP called the clip “shameful” and accused Congress of defaming the Prime Minister.
New Delhi: Delhi Police has registered an FIR after a controversial AI-generated “deepfake” video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother was circulated on social media. The video was shared by the official handle of the Indian National Congress (INC) Bihar unit on the platform formerly known as Twitter (now X) on September 10.
The case was filed based on a complaint from BJP Delhi Election Cell Convenor Sanket Gupta, who alleged that the video was aimed at
“maligning and defaming image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and His Late mother- gross violation of law, morality, and Women’s dignity.”

The complaint was lodged at the North Avenue Police Station.
According to reports, the FIR has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. These include section 336 (Forgery), section 340(2) (Forged document or electronic record and using it as genuine), section 352 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), section 356(2) (Defamation), and section 61(2) (Criminal conspiracy).
Police said the case is against unnamed persons linked to the circulation of the video through INC Bihar’s official social media handle.
Sanket Gupta, in his complaint, strongly objected to the circulation of the clip and said it had
“maligned the Prime Minister’s image, grossly violating law, morality and women’s dignity”.
The AI-generated video in question was 36 seconds long and carried the label “AI GENERATED.” It was shared with the caption “Maa appears in sahab’s dreams.”
In the clip, Prime Minister Modi is seen dreaming about his late mother, who appears to be criticising him for his politics in poll-bound Bihar.

The video quickly went viral online, sparking a sharp reaction from the BJP and its allies. Party leaders lashed out at the Congress for circulating the clip, calling it “shameful” and questioning
“how low the opposition party would stoop to target Modi.”
The controversy has now taken a legal turn with Delhi Police registering the FIR and starting its investigation into the matter.
