New Delhi: A friendly cricket match took place on Sunday at the Modern School cricket ground in Delhi, featuring teams CJI XI and SCBA XI. Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Kapil Sibal both participated in the game.
Before the match kicked off, Rajya Sabha MP and SCBA President Kapil Sibal stated,
“The Chief Justice wins in court, and he will win here in cricket as well.”
SCBA Secretary Vikrant Yadav mentioned,
“We organise this tournament every year. It is our annual tournament. This time, 22 teams participated. These teams are sponsored by senior advocates. The tournament started at the beginning of January and has now concluded. Today’s exhibition match between CJI XI and SCBA XI marks the end of it. The prize distribution ceremony will also be held today.”
In response to questions regarding the Pahalgam terrorist attack during the match, Supreme Court judge Justice Dipankar Datta expressed,
“Our sympathies are with all the bereaved families. We have taken a pledge in the Supreme Court. We stand with the victims, and under NALSA or any other legal service authority, whatever assistance can be provided, the committees will work towards it. We pray to God that such incidents do not happen again.”

Regarding the cricket match, Kapil Sibal remarked,
“The CJI won the toss. He is not used to losing. When he is on the bench, he wins, and here too, he will win in cricket. We will try to defeat him. At least that’s the spirit here, but I think it won’t be easy. He has included very good players in his team, who are not judges. His team is very strong.”
