A Bengaluru surgeon allegedly confessed to killing his wife and planned a cover-up with his lover using secret chats on UPI apps. Police have gathered massive digital evidence, and his bail has been denied due to the seriousness of the crime.
A shocking murder case from Bengaluru has taken a new turn after fresh chat evidence surfaced, revealing an alleged cover-up plan by a doctor accused of killing his wife.
Mahendra Reddy, a surgeon, was arrested in October last year, nearly six months after the death of his wife, Kruthika Reddy, who was a dermatologist. According to police, the incident happened on April 21, when Kruthika suddenly fell unwell at their home. Mahendra rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. At first, the case appeared to be a natural death, but later, investigators began to suspect foul play.
During the investigation, authorities alleged that Mahendra used his medical knowledge to make the death look natural and avoid suspicion. As the probe deepened, police discovered that he was in a relationship with a nurse named Harishtha, which became a key angle in the case.
Investigators found several incriminating chats between Mahendra and Harishtha. These messages played a crucial role in building the case against him. Interestingly, instead of using regular messaging platforms like WhatsApp, the accused allegedly used UPI payment apps to communicate, possibly to avoid detection.
The police have collected a massive amount of digital and forensic evidence. The chargesheet reportedly includes over 10.34 lakh digital files recovered by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), along with PhonePe chats, deleted data, private photographs, and other important materials.

Some of the chats clearly suggest that the crime may have been planned and that the accused was aware of his actions. In one message, Mahendra reportedly told Harishtha,
“Do not text or call me anywhere after you see this message. I will call you once everything is settled. Mostly police will call you to ask what’s our relation, tell we are friends…”
In another shocking message, he allegedly confessed,
“I don’t have proof but I have killed Kruthika. I will go behind bars…”
Further messages also showed emotional distress and guilt, where he reportedly said that he would
“live life like a murderer”.

Mahendra and Kruthika had married in May 2024 and were both working at the same hospital in Bengaluru. The case has drawn widespread attention due to the nature of the allegations and the digital trail involved.
A local court has already rejected Mahendra’s bail plea, observing the seriousness of the accusations and the strong digital evidence collected by the police. The case continues to develop as authorities prepare for further legal proceedings.
