Senior advocate Adish C. Aggarwala wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking lifelong security for retired Supreme Court judges, and urged ten years of protection for district judicial officers due to their sensitive duties and facing ongoing risks.
Senior advocate and Bar leader Adish C. Aggarwala, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting lifelong security for retired Supreme Court and high court judges.
He further asked that retired judicial officers in the district judiciary be provided security for a minimum period of 10 years.
Aggarwala, chairman of the All India Bar Association (AIBA), said in his letter that judges perform highly sensitive judicial and constitutional duties and often deliver rulings that may not be acceptable to litigating parties, criminal elements, or influential individuals.
The former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) said,
“As a consequence, many judges continue to face threats, hostility, resentment and danger even after retirement, “
Aggarwala, who heads the All India Bar Association, says that judges handle highly sensitive matters and often deliver rulings that may upset criminal groups or powerful individuals.
To ensure their safety after leaving service, he suggests providing retired district judiciary officers with security for at least ten years, stressing that they remain vulnerable and continue to face potential risks even after retirement.
