Today, On 14th May, Mamata Banerjee, former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader, reached the Calcutta High Court wearing lawyer’s robes to appear before Chief Justice Sujoy Pal during a hearing linked to a post-poll violence PIL case on Thursday.

Mamata Banerjee, the former Chief Minister of West Bengal and leader of the Trinamool Congress, arrived at the Calcutta High Court on Thursday dressed in lawyer’s robes to appear before Chief Justice Sujoy Pal in connection with a post-poll violence PIL case.
Her presence sparked political and legal speculation, particularly because the petition is set to be heard by a Division Bench led by Chief Justice Sujoy Pal.
The PIL was filed by Shirshanya Bandopadhyay, the son of Trinamool Congress leader and advocate Kalyan Banerjee.
In the petition, the petitioner alleged incidents of post-poll violence in multiple areas, including attacks on party offices and the displacement of workers.
Banerjee is expected to present the party’s position before the bench. Senior advocate Kalyan Bandopadhyay was also present in the courtroom.
The hearing is expected to begin shortly, with arguments from both sides to be presented.
Political observers are also monitoring whether the Trinamool Congress chief may move the court regarding the Bhabanipur Assembly election result.
Discussions have intensified after comparisons were drawn with the 2021 Assembly elections, when Banerjee had approached the court after her defeat to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram.
