The Bar Council of Kerala has issued a show cause notice to Mohammed Fayiz for including a High Court judge’s official vehicle in his enrollment video, calling it misconduct under the Advocates Act, 1961. Fayiz must respond within 15 days to avoid disciplinary action.
Kerala: Today, on June 04, the Bar Council of Kerala (BCK) has sent a show cause notice to a newly enrolled lawyer named Mohammed Fayiz.
The notice is because Fayiz made a video showing his enrollment ceremony, which included shots of a High Court judge’s official vehicle and its number plate.

This video was shared widely on social media and WhatsApp, which caught the attention of the BCK.
The Bar Council of Kerala took action on its own (suo motu) after seeing the video circulating online.
In the video, it first shows the judge’s vehicle and then shows Fayiz entering the High Court and receiving his enrollment certificate at an event held on June 1.
According to the Bar Council, the video is considered self-promotion or advertising, which is not allowed for lawyers under the Advocates Act, 1961.
The BCK said,
“The aforesaid video amounts to advertising and soliciting which is demeaning the dignity of the judiciary.”
They believe the use of the judge’s official vehicle’s visuals in the video was done with bad intentions.

The notice states,
“The intention of usage of the visuals of the official vehicle of a Judge of the Hon’ble High Court of Kerala is ill-motivated, malicious and mischievous against the judiciary.”
The Bar Council of Kerala said they have a strong initial opinion that Fayiz’s actions are misconduct.
They added,
“The Bar Council of Kerala has prima facie is of the impression that your aforesaid act amounts to misconduct and would be liable to be proceeded against you under Section 35 of the Advocates Act, 1961.”
Fayiz has been given 15 days to reply to the notice and explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.

This notice could lead to further legal consequences if he fails to provide a satisfactory explanation.
