In Ahmedabad, police ruled out contaminated dosa batter after 200 consumers remained unaffected.
Probe now focuses on possible intentional poisoning as forensic reports are awaited.

In a tragic and mysterious case from Ahmedabad, the deaths of two young children from a Chandkheda family have led to an intense police investigation, with authorities exploring multiple possible causes, including contamination and intentional poisoning.

Police officials have stated that the dosa batter purchased by the family is unlikely to be the direct cause of the deaths. This conclusion comes after investigators found that nearly 200 people consumed batter from the same batch without reporting any health issues. Despite this, officials have not completely ruled out the possibility that the batter may have been contaminated after purchase or that there could be a case of deliberate poisoning.

The case involves the deaths of three-month-old Raha Prajapati and her four-year-old sister Mishri. Following the incident, the investigation has gained momentum, with the city crime branch joining the Chandkheda police to probe deeper into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

In a significant development, the body of infant Raha was exhumed for a more detailed forensic examination. Authorities have sent the remains to Civil Hospital, where a panel of doctors will conduct a thorough postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.

A senior official from the crime branch stated,

“Prima facie, the dosa batter sold by the dairy is unlikely to be the cause of death since 200 people consumed the same batch without falling ill. We are probing all angles, including intentional poisoning and the possibility that the batter used by the family became contaminated later,”

highlighting the complexity and sensitivity of the case.

According to the investigation so far, the children’s father, Vimal Prajapati, had purchased approximately 3 kilograms of dosa batter from a dairy located on IOC Road on the evening of April 1. The family consumed dosas that night, but the next morning they began experiencing symptoms such as vomiting and uneasiness.

Tragically, the condition of the children worsened over the next few days, leading to Raha’s death on April 4 and Mishri’s death on April 5. Their parents, Vimal and Bhavna, were also affected but are currently undergoing treatment at KD Hospital and are reported to be stable.

One of the most puzzling aspects of the case for investigators is the death of the infant, Raha, who was exclusively breastfed and had not consumed any solid food. This has raised further doubts about the initial suspicion surrounding the dosa batter and has strengthened the possibility of other factors being involved.

The dairy owner, from whom the batter was purchased, has denied any negligence or wrongdoing. He stated that the same batch was sold to multiple customers and that no other complaints were received.

Meanwhile, forensic teams have collected samples from both the Prajapati residence and the dairy outlet. Authorities are now awaiting detailed viscera and forensic reports, which are expected to provide crucial evidence and help determine the exact cause of death.

As the investigation continues, police are carefully examining all possible angles to ensure that the truth behind this heartbreaking incident is uncovered.
