Student representatives have strongly condemned the Vice-Chancellor’s non-consensual visit, accusing him of violating the female students’ privacy. They emphasized that a male, regardless of being accompanied by female staff, should not be permitted to enter female students’ rooms.

PUNJAB: Students of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala, are protesting against the Vice-Chancellor’s unscheduled visit to the girls’ hostel and his ‘inappropriate’ remarks about the clothing of female students.

A video circulating on social media captures Vice-Chancellor Singh making an unannounced visit to the hostel. In the footage, Singh is seen inspecting the rooms of female students. When students raised objections, he responded by stating that he was not alone and was accompanied by a female warden.

The protest stems from concerns about Singh’s presence in the girls’ hostel, as university rules do not allow even parents to enter the premises without permission.

As per reports, Prof. Singh clarified that his visit was by complaints from some female hostel residents regarding the quality of mess food and other hostel facilities. He also mentioned that the hostel warden accompanied him during the inspection.

In response to the student protest later that evening, Singh expressed that he considered all female students like his granddaughters and issued an unconditional apology.
